When Chris Bombeke came up to me and said the music was the coolest
of any wedding he'd been to that was the kind of endorsement I had
dreamed of. Yes, some guests thought some of the bands "meshuginah."
But for those of you who asked, "What band was that?" here's
a list.
These are the songs we had a hand in, either by suggesting the song
or the artist. Not everything played is listed. You might have guessed
we did not pick "Let's Get Loud" or "Do You
Believe?"
We will be compiling some of these songs into a new volume of Keeping
Up With The Doyles. There also will be a disc devoted to music we
had picked that didn't get played (if only we could have danced the
whole night long!). Watch for them.
First Dances:
- "Best Days" - The Softies
- "Unforgettable" - Nat King Cole (just
Nat, sorry Natalie!)
Dinner Music:
- "True Love Ways" - Buddy Holly (We
picked Buddy, DJ Jerry picked the song. Good pick!)
- "Young Love" - Sonny James
- "Poor Little Fool" - Ricky Nelson
- "Excellent" - The Softies
- "This House" - The Softies
- "Toxic Girl" - Kings of Convenience
- "Svefn-G-Englar" - Sigur Ros
Dancing:
- "In Heaven There's No Beer" - Frankie Yankovic (our
sole polka)
- "Bohemian Like You" - The Dandy Warhols (This
was the first song with which Hyoung-sil and I floored the crowd)
- "Don't Mess With Us" - Subdebs
- "Shakin'" - The Dandy Warhols (This was
another song that caught attention, the one with the deep
voice...)
- "2 am beach story" - Lorna (The last
song of the evening. Now you can say you've been to a wedding
where the music included a Theremin.)
